On Golden Pond opens this weekend!

Playhouse 51 presents Earnest Thompson’s On Golden Pond, sponsored by Dr. Kevin Reed, Reed Family Dentistry March 13, 14, 15, 20 & 21 at the Millington Civic Center located at 8077 Wilkinsville Road in Millington.  Enjoy a evening of fine dining and entertainment in Millington!  The Neighborhood Bistro and Playhouse 51 are partnering to provide an enchanting evening.  Make plans to enjoy one of the Bistro's special entre creations and then see the heart-warming play, On Golden Pond.  The cost is $25 per person for dinner and the show!  For more information, ask your server or call Playhouse 51 at 901.872.7170.

On Golden Pond is being directed by Danny Armitage, Playhouse 51 Executive Director.  Armitage directed Rumors and Bell, Book and Candle.  He has over 30 years of experience in theatre and has starred in various shows at Playhouse 51, Playhouse on the Square, Circuit Playhouse, Theatre Memphis, Germantown Community Theatre, The Alabama Shakespeare Festival and many others.  Munford High School freshman, Taylor Jones is working as assistant director and playing the operator in this production.  Jones has performed on stage and off for Playhouse 51 for years and will now add assistant directing to her growing resume. 

This production of On Golden Pond will feature a mix of new and familiar faces to the Playhouse 51 stage.  John Malloy will be making his Playhouse 51 debut as the grumpy, but endearing Norman Thayer.  Although Malloy is new to Millington’s Community Theatre he has numerous stage, film and TV credits in 46 states, Japan and Europe.  A few of his most notable performances were in Black Snake Moan, Great Balls of Fire, Walking Tall, Final Chapter, The Bear Bryant Story, Hoffa, Unsolved Mysteries, The Untouchables, Cannery Row, Tarzan, the Adventure Continues and many more.    Jane Lester, Playhouse 51’s Artistic Director, will be playing the energetic, charming Ethel Thayer.  Lester directed It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play twice for Playhouse 51 and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.  She also starred inBell Book and Candle and The Odd Couple: Female Version at Playhouse 51 and has extensive experience at various other theatres over the years.   Austin Brown will be making his Playhouse 51 debut as Bill Junior.  Brown is a 5th grade student at Alturia Elementary School in Bartlett.  He performed in To Kill A Mocking Bird at Harrell Theatre, Our Townat Theatre Memphis and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever at Bartlett Station Municipal Center.  Mandie Jo Cool, another new comer to Playhouse 51 recently moved to the area with her military husband and 4 teenagers.  Cool has extensive community theatre experience on stage and off at theatres in Georgia.    This will be Mike Evan’s third onstage appearance at Playhouse 51.  He made his debut as Joseph and Bert the Cop in It's a Wonderful Life.  He followed that with a critically acclaimed performance as Dr. Ernie Cusack in Rumors.  He continues in the medical vein by playing Dr. Bill Ray in this production.  John Reed will be playing the quirky character of Charlie.  This is Reed’s debut with Millington’s Community Theatre, but his credits include:  A Midsummer Night’s Dream, To Kill A Mockingbird, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.
